Born and raised in Barcelona, Spain, Ruben moved to the United States in 2008 and has been living and working from New York ever since.
Known for his cinematic approach across commercials documentary and film, Ruben’s contemporary and intimate style of filmmaking combines visceral visuals with a highly polished cinematic feel. Ruben brings projects to life with a mastery of technique, skill and style.
He is an artisan. Self-taught. Always creating. Always pushing past what he has done before. No ego. Just work. Just Ruben.
Ruben’s commercial career began with the assignment of directing a five-commercial campaign for the engineering company SACYR. The spots earned him a Spot of the Month highlight in Spanish trades, as well as a nod for Best New Director at APCP Madrid. This was followed up with a spot for Biomasa, for which he received another Best New Director nomination that same year. Ruben’s first year directing commercials culminated with a spot for the Sitges Film Festival, paying homage to Ridley Scott’s Alien. This commercial gained Ruben his unprecedented 3rd nomination, in a single year, for Best New Director at APCP. He was officially awarded Best New Director for the Sitges Film Festival commercial.
Since then, career highlights for Ruben have included his work for Samsung, which brought him to Hong Kong, Ethiopia, South Korea, Vietnam, Brazil, Turkey and South Africa where he created beautiful documentaries about Samsung’s pro-social efforts. Ruben directed the Spanish National Fútbol Team in a commercial that aired throughout the 2010 World Cup. Other celebrity work includes directing Keke Palmer and Morris Chestnut in a campaign for Verizon, and Lee Byung-hun in a commercial for Lifeplus.
Ruben’s work has been screened at the Director’s Guild of America in Shoot’s New Directors Showcase, been shortlisted at AICP, and featured in publications across the globe. ADWEEK hailed a campaign Ruben directed and photographed for Bellawood as, “gorgeous, nuanced and ethereal.” His work has earned numerous awards including the following:
